STONE CARVING SKILLS; CUTTING A ROMAN LETTERFORM IN STONE

Saturday 2 August 10.00 am – 4.30 pm

£120 including refreshments throughout & lunch, materials, use of equipment on the day, tutoring & certificate of completion.

This one day workshop with our guest stone mason, Mark Evans, will offer a simple introduction to stone as a material and to the special chisels used in letter carving.

Mark will teach students how to draw out a capital Roman letter and then carve it into an approx. 10-inch square piece of Portland limestone using a traditional dummy hammer and letter carving chisels.

Not only a hands on experience but one that might offer a fresh way of looking at architectural lettering and traditional memorials.

This STONE CARVING - CUTTING A ROMAN LETTER IN STONE workshop is held in a dedicated covered, outside space in the peaceful setting of our Blended Monkey studios in the cottage gardens of our home on the Cambs/Norfolk border.

This experience can be enjoyed by a group of up to 6 people and you'll take away everything you make during the session.

The stone carving workshops are suitable for everyone (14+ accompanied by an adult). There is a degree of arm strength and the ability to stand for periods of time required.

This full-day group workshop includes refreshments throughout, all the equipment and materials and also lunch.

About a week before your workshop date, we'll e-mail you again with more details about parking etc.

We also offer accommodation in the form of our Crafter's Retreat cabin subject to availability or we can advise of other local B&Bs.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, and a light, rustic farmhouse-style lunch is also included - tailored to meet all dietary requirements. Depending on the weather/time of year, lunch can be taken either out in the cottage garden or in our country kitchen which has a view over the garden.

All students will be provided with a certificate of completion.
